Business leadership today is a field that requires the best of skill in managing business practices. Indeed, leading a business is a responsible job, and in this highly competitive and globalized world quality leadership in an organization is of great importance. Managing businesses today is a sensitive process that defines whether or not a business will be successful.

Business Leadership today is a science that requires the best of skills that one should be equipped with to survive in places like the international market or as top producers in a single country.

Competition is tough nowadays since there are many who are aware of all the tricks in managing business. With certain businesses emerging as the leaders in the market they also have to prove themselves and remain there. Becoming number one is easier than remaining number one. This is because of the fact that there will be other businesses that will mimic similar strategies in order to reach where any other has. Aside from combating internal environmental obstacles, external obstacles may also be removed through effective transformational leadership. Employees can also be taught how to handle the pressures of external influences on the organization through the management setting standards and inspiring their employees.

The period in which one lives today is indeed one that is fast-paced. Hence, every step of the way in one’s life one has to be careful about every action. In this way, one would at least be re-assured that particular steps being taken are ones that are carefully calculated ones. Hence, if any errors are committed due to unforeseen circumstances, one would at least have the satisfaction knowing that rashness was not part of the cause. Similar to the satisfaction that one might get in this way, CEOs also have to be careful about their actions; they have to know exactly what their actions will do. They also need to know what the market situation is like, as this would directly influence their actions.

In order to align one’s strategy, a CEO needs to know about the environment in which his or her organization operates. Logically speaking then, it is essential for one to adopt particular strategies for a CEO to know what his or her organization is into. S/he would first of all need to scan the environment and also conduct this scanning process periodically in order to keep a track of changes in the environment.

Though these are seen as the two most logical approaches for a CEO to run an organization, it has also been argued by some that the frequency of scanning is not necessary for an organization to survive the external environment; it is argued that there is no relationship between the frequency of scanning with the alignment of strategy for an external environment. This might sound odd to many. However, it might be considered a logical claim in the light of economic as well as eco-sociological approaches.

This is true to say because of the fact that the environment in which an organization operates does not necessarily undergo transformation very quickly. Considering that there are two significant influences that might cause a change in the market, one can understand the situation. This first is the economic stability in a given region, and the second is the cultural influence. If the economic conditions remain relatively stable and the culture is relatively static as well, there are fewer chances of the environment changing quickly.

By targeting the right areas with a set plan in mind management can change the performance of an organization, and the primary reason for this change in management should be the customers. It must be realized that the employees are the ones that bring in the customers, and they are valuable tools to profit for the management.

Hence, this leads one to judge a situation by acknowledging stability in a given society. Also, if one learns about the stability or other behavior of an external environment, there would necessarily be a relationship between frequent scanning and alignment of strategy for an environment. Thus, it might be asserted that it is not surprising that there is no relationship claim in this regard by the author.

On the other hand, such a hypothesis might be proved wrong in the light of instability and economic fluctuations that could trigger any amount of variation in a region. In such a case it would naturally be mandatory for one to carry out frequent scanning, as without such a tool in hand one would be at a loss.

Due to the fact that the world has evolved so quickly through a digital phase there is even greater need for business leaders to help organizations cope with growing pressures. These pressures may be reduced efficiently through proper transformational leadership, as it aims at making appropriate changes in the organization that conform to internal and external pressures. Business leadership also involves coping with these changes too. Transformational management is essential especially since globalization has taken place and there are a greater number of organizations in one market. And since there are changes taking place periodically at different levels there is a need to beware of these and manage one’s firm so that these changes do not effect the organization adversely. However, in the author’s view, it is not surprising at all that the frequency of scanning has no relationship with alignment of strategy. This is because this approach is directly related to the stability of a region. In the case of stability, it must be asserted that CEOs may in fact take the environment for granted. Yet, it is worth asserting that watching conditions in situations where there is little economic as well as cultural stability, frequent scanning is essential.
