There are many benefits to studying at home. You are free to set your own
schedule, you can go at your own pace, and you don't have to travel to school.
But unless you are disciplined, you may fritter away your time. Here are some distance
learning tips to keep you on track.
In order to succeed at distance learning, you must learn to separate your
study time from your regular recreation time. This means setting a regular
schedule and sticking to it. You don't have to do distance learning the same
time every day, but you need to draw up a study schedule just as you would
follow a course schedule at school.
During this time that you have set aside for distance learning, you must not
be distracted by anything. Inform your family and friends that you are not
available during these hours. They must respect your desire to succeed in
distance learning and let you study without distractions.
Your distance learning schedule must also include regular times when you go
online for your lessons. This time should not be used for surfing the Internet
or writing e-mail - keep your attention focused on your study assignments.
Your distance learning environment should be set up in such a way that you
can focus on your work. That means no television, no stereo, and no telephone.
It is best to set up a separate room in your house where you can study.
Furnish it with a desk and a comfortable chair. You will also need bookshelves
and the lighting must be adequate.
Of course, a separate room is not a necessity for distance learning. Lots of
people simply don't have the extra space in their home or apartment.
Nevertheless, your study space must be conducive to your school work, so try to
make it comfortable and attractive so that you look forward to your study time.
